The Literacy Council offers private tutoring for English speakers who want help with reading, writing, and spelling. The program is for adults aged 18 and over who live or work in Frederick County.

Start Working with a Tutor

Most people start with a reading level lower than 5th grade. Learners go at their own speed, and the tutor helps with any special reading needs. Tutoring is private and free. Students are asked to pay for their books if they can. Start learning, today!

Reach Special Goals

Learners also come to the Literacy Council for help:

  • Preparing for the GED test
  • Getting a driver’s license
  • Opening a bank account
  • Filling out an application for apartment, loan, college, etc.
  • Learning basic computer and math skills
