Life Skills Instructor(s)

The Literacy Council of Frederick County seeks experienced Life Skills instructors who display a high degree of professionalism and a strong commitment to adult learners.

Position Type: Contract.

Level/Salary Range: $35/hour (commensurate with prior experience) which includes preparation and instruction time, workman’s compensation coverage provided.

Job Description: We are seeking applicants for our substitute pool.

Schedule: As needed/ variable

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Support drop-in learners who need assistance preparing for their GED, completing paperwork, studying for certification tests, and/or studying for placement tests. Instructor(s) will be under the supervision of the Literacy Council’s Life Skills Program Coordinator.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Teaching/tutoring/training experience with adults or other strong teaching background

Subject content knowledge in 2 or more areas: math, social studies, ELA, science

Experience working with a diverse learner population

Ability to work positively and effectively with students from diverse language, cultural, and educational backgrounds

Bachelor’s Degree

Excellent oral and written English communications skills

SKILLS

Basic computer skills required, including Microsoft (or Google equivalent): Word, PowerPoint, Excel.

REFERENCES

Must be able to provide references relevant to recent teaching experience.
