SUMMARY:ESL Pronunciation Class - Tuesdays
DESCRIPTION:The Tuesday afternoon Pronunciation Class is a ten-week class for English students.  We will focus on the sounds and other aspects of spoken English (stress\, intonation\, etc.) which are most problematic for the students participating in the class.  The goal of the class is for the students to improve their ability to understand spoken English and to clearly express themselves when speaking in English. \nThe class will meet each Tuesday from March 5 through May 7\, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Registration is required.

SUMMARY:Conversation Class - 1st and 3rd Tuesdays
DESCRIPTION:This is a student-led conversation class.  Students meet every other week to plan the class and class strategies.  Students themselves give presentations and mini-presentations about their country of origin\, first year in the United States\, or anything else of interest to them.  Idioms are discussed.  We also read the newspaper News for You for practice in pronunciation and break down into smaller groups to have discussions.  It is a very social time for students to get to know one another and make friendships.  The class will meet every first and third Tuesday of the month from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. from September 18 through December 4.  Sometimes students bring in food to share\, but you are allowed to eat in the classroom so it is suggested that you bring a lunch or snack.  Other times\, we go on field trips especially in the summer. This campaign is a collaboration between Blessings in a Backpack\, Curious Iguana bookstore\, Frederick County Public Libraries and the Literacy Council of Frederick County. \nTogether\, we can… \n\nPut books in the hands of children who need them\nCombat “summer slide”- the decline in reading skills that can happen when school’s not in session\nEnsure that more kids are ready to read and succeed when school starts this fall\n\nWith your help\, 1\,000 Frederick County students in pre-k\, kindergarten\, and first grade will receive a brand new book in their backpacks before summer break begins! \nTo donate one or more of the titles on our READy for Summer book list: \n\nBring a new book from the READy for Summer book list below to the Literacy Council or make a donation to the Literacy Council anytime through May 12th\, designating the READy for Summer Campaign.  We will use the funds to purchase books from the list and deliver them on your behalf to Blessings in a Backpack.\nPurchase books through Curious Iguana’s website.
