Bus Buddies

Become Inspired! Learn More About The Literacy Council

Literacy Council of Frederick CountyThe issue of illiteracy is one that affects us all. In Frederick County, 1 in 10 or 17,000 adults are functionally illiterate and cannot read a newspaper or fill out a job application. Since 1963, the Literacy Council has been assisting both American and foreign-born adults in attaining basic reading, writing and English-speaking skills with our free, confidential, one-on-one tutoring services – resulting in lives of greater productivity and communities with a higher quality of life.

Learn about the work of the Literacy Council and how you can make a difference in the lives of fellow residents by watching our new video. We believe you’ll be surprised and moved by what you learn.

Tutor Training

Interested in learning more about becoming a Literacy Council volunteer Tutor?

If so, you are invited to participate in a short, no-obligation Tutor Information Session to get all the details. If you decide that you’d like to continue along the path to becoming a tutor, you can then attend one of the scheduled Tutor Training Workshops. You may register for and attend any information session prior to the training workshop you select. The Information Session is a prerequisite for participating in a Tutor Training Workshop, and completion of one Information Session and both Workshop days is required for Tutor Certification.
