The Literacy Council is again participating as a collection site for the United Way’s Stuff the Bus School Supply Drive. Stuff the Bus is a way for the community to come together to help young people succeed in school and is a way for the Literacy Council to support family literacy.
1 in 3 households in Frederick County struggle to afford basic necessities (http://www.unitedwayfrederick.org/ALICE), so they find it very difficult to afford needed school supplies. This drive helps ensure that children in more than 4500 families have the supplies they need to do their homework, take tests, and complete projects. It is a simple but important way to help children succeed in school.
You may drop off your donation of new items Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., beginning Monday, July 6, through Wednesday, August 12. Since our office is still closed to the public, we have placed a bin in the entryway of the Patrick Street entrance to the library (the administrative entrance where our door is located.) Use the double doors on Patrick Street. Those doors will be unlocked between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Click here for a detailed list of needed items.
The Stuff the Bus Drive will be challenging this year due to business closures and more limited shopping, so United Way is also encouraging online donations so they can purchase the needed items.
